Circulate widely:

Zelaya called a popular uprising against the coup regime

Zelaya met Tuesday with his counterpart Alvaro Colom, on his visit to Guatemala. (Photo: Efe) Zelaya, who was received with military honors of Head of State in Guatemala, he recalled his arrival shortly return to his country and will print the corresponding punishment for the military coup that drove it from power.

TeleSUR 14/07/09

The legitimate president of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, called Tuesday for the people of Honduras to the insurgency, as stipulated in the Constitution of that country as a means of pressure before the installation of the de facto government of Roberto Micheletti, after the coup that took him out of power.

SunlandSome people turn to us with advice "You may simply buy some uninhabited Island. Why not?"
These people don't realize properly what Sunland’s main foundations are. Even if this short introduction to the issue will antagonize by a part of our audience, nevertheless we must clarify the matter.

Sunland is a light beam in a Kingdom of darkness. Ordinary persons depreciatingly say “that is utopia”. Yes, Sunland is embodied utopia! Blockheads don't understand that Sunland is nothing unless it becomes a completely alternative vision. What is utopia in philosophical sense of word?
Utopia is an integral part of life. The world accumulates entropy in various forms until people, which inspired by the utopia, begin building some new forms of life. The world would have comes to end very quickly if utopia did not exist.

Thus, we can set up these Sunland’s main foundations:
"The government said he broke the law and is guilty of 18 crimes", she said. "Do you know what they are?" She pulled out her cell phone and started to read from a list: He raised the minimum wage, gave out free school lunches, provided milk for the babies and pensions for the elderly, distributed energy-saving lightbulbs, decreased the price of public transportation, made more scholarships available for students." Suddenly a crowd gathered around us and started chiming in. "He fixed the roads", said one. "He put schools in remote rural areas, like my little village, that never had them before", added another. "He let anyone go into the Presidential Palace and converted it from an elite residence to the people's house", said another.

"You see?", Alejandra smiled. "He is guilty of even more then 18 crimes. That's why the elite classes can't stand him and why we want him back. This is really a class struggle."

The leaders of the Honduran coup are not going to give up the power they've seized willingly. Despite massive international condemnation and attempted negotiations organised by Hilary Clinton with the President of Costa Rica as mediator, the coup leaders are holding firm. Despite misgivings of that regime, the comments of Chávez are appropriate - the coup must be overthrown; and not in a friendly way.

The recently published memoirs of former Chinese premier Zhao Ziyang reveal the brutal truth behind the Communist Party's grip on power, writes Dan Edwards

We're all familiar with the iconic image of a man defiantly staring down a line of tanks the day after the People's Liberation Army blasted its way into Beijing on the night of 3/4 June 1989. The anonymous man's suicidal act has become a symbol of spontaneous individual defiance in the face of overwhelming state repression.

For all the faceless brute force on display in that image, however, the reality is the Chinese Communist Party was far from unified as its tanks rolled through the streets of the capital. The recently published Prisoner of the State: The Secret Journal of Premier Zhao Ziyang — secretly smuggled out of China as a series of tape recordings — reveals a leadership bitterly divided over the protests and split throughout the 1980s between those favouring increasing liberalisation and conservatives violently opposed to reform.

So I took tcpip suggestion and here I am presenting myself:

My name is Sofia and I come from Portugal. I am a law graduate and I belong to a far left party called Bloco de Esquerda (english: Left Bloc) which belongs to the European United Left–Nordic Green Left in the European Parliament.

Currently, our national parliament has 5 parties and two of them are extreme left (my own party has 8 seats and the Communist Party has 12 seats). Both grew in the European elections which makes Portugal an interesting case.

I am glad to join you to discuss various things about socialism and current politics.

It's nice to meet everyone.

July 10th, 2009

Every Friday, let's express what we did in the previous week to further the cause of socialism.

It can be attending meetings, writing papers, signing up members to your favourite socialist political party, lobbying centrist politicians, working in a co-
op... All those things count and more. Anything but arguing on the Internet...

Firstly, a warm welcome to [info]i_fart_bats (which must be quite a party trick), [info]telephonoscope, [info]paper_haze, [info]jamieofavalon, [info]noveltynovelist, [info]lucian_maxwell, [info]i_kant83, [info]artdecodame, [info]osmany. I may take this opportunity to mention that whilst it has been a couple of weeks between posts, this level of interest does seem to be at least, if not greater, than most other political groups. I would like to think it's because we actually have sensible discussions here.

Please feel free to introduce yourselves if you so desire.

Over the past several days I attended a meeting of the local branch of the Labor Party; the speaker was from the Alternative Technology Association discussing the Federal governments subsidy and loans schemes for those who wish to put in solar hot water, insulation, energy efficient globes etc into their home. Best still, renters can get their landlords to do it. Nice. And of course, true to the best principles of socialist economics, the savings in the long run far exceed the costs in the short-run.

In other matters, I've put myself down for public action by Amnesty International as Aung San Suu Kyi's trial has just resumed. I am also attending a meeting of the Public Transport User's Group on Monday, and am making a submission/response to the state government's Climate Change Green Paper. I'd also like to give [info]aeriefairie some kudos for her article on effective separation of church and state on marriage and civil unions.

Oh, Australia has neo-Nazis promoting a seemingly popularist conservative party.

SunlandYour Excellency,

We, the group of people from around the world, mostly creative persons and artists (but also common people) express our outraged by unlawful actions of putschists. We believe and hope that the fairness will be fully restored and government in exile under your leadership can return to the motherland. We hope that the lawlessness will be stopped and your glorious country can be able to go forward on the way of progress and democracy still more confidently. We will do our best to support your fair struggle and contribute to the progressive development of Honduras republic.

We are all united by the participation in a project that was named Sunland. Its main idea consists in the following: we want to establish a sort of art-colony and, at the same time, a self-sustaining ecological village. For this purpose we want to create on one of the uninhabited islands a settlement for creative people from around the world.

SunlandOn June 21, as a location for Sunland we’ve proposed Oeno from Pitcairn Islands group in Southern Pacific. Many people, who are interested in this project, expressed their doubts about such place for dislocation. Their main argument is that in this case Sunland location will be situated very far from continental land, inhabited islands and any transport communications. According to the skeptics, this would mean that all Sunland's strength have to spend to provide minimum survival conditions to a small group of volunteers. Even if these concerns are not well-grounded (because of a number of important counter arguments), they deserve to take them into account. Moreover, it turned out that due to seasonal conditions of sailing navigation in this part of the ocean (storms, currents and wind directions) it is almost impossible to get to Oeno Island by yacht this year. So, without giving up the idea to establish Sunland on Oeno Island, we must consider the alternatives. At the moment, there is a variant to arrange Sunland on one of the islands near the coastline
Sofia, and now prime minister. Boyko Borisov will have one of the more eclectic resumes among European heads of government when he becomes Bulgarian premier in the wake of his overwhelming election victory Sunday.

Mr. Borisov's Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria (GERB, which translates as "coat of arms") won a reported 40 percent of the vote, trouncing the ruling Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) of Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev, which scored 18 percent.

GERB is forecast to send 116 deputies to the 240-seat parliament, just short of a majority. It is expected to form a government with the Blue Coalition, a descendant of the right-of-center movement that governed between 1997 and 2001, and took nearly 7 percent of the vote, giving it a projected 15 seats. The scale of GERB's victory was unexpected – it had polled less than 25 percent in the European elections last month.

Prediction: With a centre-right, pro-business associations and a threadbare platform, the victory of this sensationalist, pop-culture Prime Minister will be marked by racism towards minority Turks and Roma, corruption with business associations, and a downgrading of social infrastructure.

This is a list poem I wrote during a semester where I was trying to resolve some of the emotionality of radical theory. I don't know if it's pro or con or whatever, but, hell, you guys might enjoy it.

Dialectical Anthropomorphism

Communism is a big, red flag fluttering in flagrant breezes.

Communism likes poor people because they think facts are facts

Communism would like for it to be said ‘He died for us’

Communism doesn’t care how successful you are

Communism is a big bear, if there is a bear, but if there isn’t, it’s not a big bear

Communism is a specter; apparently it haunts Europe

Communism sleeps next to success but it always hogs the blanket.

Communism is favorable to blankets

Communism is extremely critical of bunnies, doctors, and the American dream

Communism hits people, right on the nose

Communism thinks everything’s a sucker punch

Communism is wrong about everything it doesn’t think its right about

Communism ends every sentence with ‘so there’

Communism thinks it’s better than capitalism

Communism can beat up socialism
